On 18 October 2017, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC), the Foreign Trade Association (FTA), together with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) will organise the roundtable 'Promoting Corporate Due Diligence to Enhance the Human Rights and Security of Refugees in Turkey'.
There is a growing interest in the legal employment of refugees in Turkey and brands, manufacturers, trade unions and NGOs have joined in collective actions to facilitate the integration of Syrian refugees in the formal labour market. Yet, implementing just and fair policies for the 3.5 million registered refugees in Turkey has been made more difficult for all parties.
This event in Oxford is a follow up to the FTA led Multi-Stakeholder Forum held in March in Hamburg 'Business-led call for supply chain action'and will engage senior representatives from business and investor communities, governments, including the Turkish and British government, international organisations, trade unions, civil society organisations and academia. It aims to provide the space for participants to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges they face to help Syrians under temporary protection to integrate formal and decent employment.
