On 20 November, amfori will host the Round Table 'Towards a Sustainable and Future-Fit RMG Industry in Bangladesh' in Dhaka.
Bangladesh represents a world leader as an exporter of ready-made garments (RMG), an industry which has paved the way for transformational development across the country. In the light of sustainability concerns and increasing demands from European and international buyers, it is clear that more efforts are needed to maintain Bangladesh’s competitive edge, particularly in the face of legislative and consumer pressure.
This day will examine some of the most pressing matters in Bangladesh:
- The journey of the minimum wage including the recent increase. What measures can support its reinforcement going forward?
- After having facilitated good progress towards a safe and healthy RMG industry, what does the future hold post Accord?
- Empowering Women: an introduction to amfori's ‘Shobola Project’ - an example of how training and education of the Bangladesh workforce, notably women, is critical for business performance and the country’s future success.
