On 14 and 15 June, FTA hosted its annual conference ‘Unleash Opportunity’ in Brussels. Representing Europe’s largest sustainability conference, it gathered more than 400 representatives from business, governments, NGOs, academia and media and embraced FTA’s vision of sustainable value chains and removed trade barriers.
The conference featured over 70 inspiring speakers over the two days, including Arancha González, Executive Director of the International Trade Centre; Dr. Janez Potočnik, Co-Chair of International Resource Panel at United Nations Environment Programme; and Parul Sharma, Head of Sweden’s Delegation to Agenda 2030. Discussions were moderated by Julie Gichuru, Kenyan TV host and business woman.
As certain governments’ commitment to open trade, human rights, and global concerns like climate change are in question, the responsibility for businesses to address these issues is more important than ever. During these two days, plenary sessions set the tone for discussions, while breakout sessions tackled a wide range of topics, such as the future of big data, measuring supply chain emissions, innovating for 2030 and building European alliances to scale impact.
While celebrating its 40 year anniversary, FTA also announced its new strategy for the future, Vision 2030, and the new brand identity for the organisation that will embody this strategy as of January 2018: amfori. Aligned with the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs)¸this vision will enable the association to provide practical support to all businesses committed to achieve the SDGs and will address the ever-changing global trends impacting companies.
