On 21 May, amfori and EQUALITAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed to enhance triple bottom line sustainability in the wine industry. The agreement envisages cooperation and mutual assistance between the two organisations to improve the social, environmental and economic performance of wine supply chains.
What EQUALITAS does
EQUALITAS is an Italian initiative for sustainable winegrowing promoted by Federdoc, the national confederation of voluntary Consortia for the protection of the designation of the Italian wines. It has developed and manages a standard that combines good practices and integrated economic, environmental and social indicators. Grape producers, wine processors or bottling companies, and associations can undertake a self-assessment and apply for certification on their company, product or territory – 28 certifications (12 corporate, 16 product) have been issued to date in Italy.
Objectives of the Partnership
The MoU will facilitate information exchange and collaboration between amfori and EQUALITAS in the following areas:
- Increasing the level of transparency of the wine supply chains through data exchange
- Training opportunities, increasing awareness among wine producers on social, environmental and economic sustainability.
- Supply chain and progress monitoring
The partnership will be presented to representatives of the Italian wine industry in the Montagnana Wine Festival organized by EQUALITAS on the 8 June. Learn more about the event.
