amfori Joins Business Call in Support of EU-Singapore Trade Agreement

amfori joined a number of other business associations and chambers of commerce in calling for the EU to ratify the trade agreement with Singapore, which has been on hold since 2014.

The EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement was sent to the European Court of Justice to be assessed whether it can be ratified only by the EU institutions, or whether every member state’s parliament should also have a voice in its ratification.

amfori position

For amfori, the EU-Singapore agreement is important since it offers huge economic opportunities and includes far reaching disciplines on trade and sustainable development that will serve as a benchmark for other countries of the ASEAN region. The agreement also sets out strong commitments on domestic levels of environmental and labour protections consistent with international standards and agreements, and emphasises that economic growth and sustainable development go hand in hand with each other.
