The wine and spirit sector in Latin America employs a high percentage of women but the opportunities for leadership positions are mainly limited to men.
Rural women are a key asset for growth in Latin America and the Caribbean wine and spirit sector. However, the historical discrimination that rural women face up to the present day puts the region's economic growth at risk. Empowering these women is part of the solution - without them progress and sustainable business operations are not possible.
In response to these challenges, amfori and UN Women will host a webinar on 26 March titled “Gender Equality means good business: challenges and opportunities for women in the wine and spirits sector”. The webinar is organised as part of amfori’s close collaboration with UN Women and in support of the “Win-Win: Gender Equality Means Good Business” programme* by the ILO, EU, and UN Women Latin America and Caribbean.
Participants will learn from inspiring women leaders operating in the wine and spirit sector. In addition, the event will see the launch of training opportunities on how to detect and remediate gender-based discrimination in the wine and spirit sector in Latin America, an important sector for amfori and its members.
Through our Enterprise for Equal Strategy and in partnership with UN Women and other key stakeholders, amfori is committed to equip businesses with tools and provide opportunities to promote gender equality in supply chains and the workplace to advance performance, sustainability and fairness.
The webinar is open to all wine and spirits producers in Latin America including the Caribbean.
This and subsequent trainings will have live translation in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

ILO, EU, and UN Women Latin America and Caribbean
UN Women, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU) believe that gender inequality in the labour market is a problem that needs to be tackled head-on. Based on this conviction, a strategic partnership has been created to implement the ¨Win-Win: Gender Equality Means Good Business¨ programme, a regional programme in 6 LAC countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Uruguay.
