BSCI and Initiative Clause Sociale (ICS), a social compliance initiative representing 20 major French and Belgian retailers, have announced the signature of an agreement to embark on a close cooperation with the aim of merging efforts by 2017 under the auspices of the Foreign Trade Association (FTA), BSCI's umbrella organisation.
Based on their complementary expertise and shared vision of sustainable supply chains, both organisations aim at achieving a convergence of processes and criteria to move beyond social compliance and work towards the continuous improvement of working conditions in sourcing countries. Through this process, both initiatives will as well avoid duplication of efforts and costs by pooling resources from ICS' extensive auditing experience and BSCI's expertise in monitoring, stakeholder engagement and training activities.
Christian Ewert, FTA Director General: “The longstanding work of ICS with regard to social auditing is important and well regarded. Joining forces with ICS will complement our respective strengths, and the leverage both initiatives will create will make our common efforts more efficient. Together, we want to help retailers, brands and importing companies with a best-in-class system and services to improve labour conditions in global supply chains”.
