FTA is delighted to announce that its Director General, Christian Ewert, has joined the Advisory Board of Social Accountability International (SAI).
SAI works to protect the integrity of workers around the world by building local capacity and developing systems of accountability through socially responsible standards. The organisation established one of the world's pre-eminent social standards - the SA8000® standard for decent work, a tool for implementing international labour standards.
In his capacity as a member of the Advisory Board, Mr. Ewert will, along with other members, offer counsel to the President and staff of SAI, informed by his extensive background and experience in representing the trade sector, and particularly, the sustainability initiatives of FTA with regards to its Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). As well as being the developer of the SA8000 labour standard, SAI is also represented on BSCI’s Stakeholder Council, which advises and therefore supports BSCI’s Steering Committee to take into account stakeholders’ viewpoints.
“I am pleased to become a member of SAI’s Advisory Board and to contribute my expertise and advice to the successful advancement of its mission. FTA and SAI have a longstanding collaboration and through this latest step in our mutual efforts to share perspectives, I am certain that both organisations will be strengthened”, said Christian Ewert.
