Commission Opens Investigation on EBA Status of Cambodia

On 11 February, the European Commission announced that it has initiated an investigation to determine whether Cambodia’s trade preferences under the Everything But Arms (EBA) scheme should be removed has been expected by amfori for several months.

After close discussions with the Commission following a fact-finding mission in July, it was clear to amfori that serious violations had occurred, and that action should be considered. In January, amfori issued a statement that supported the opening of an investigation as a means of achieving the removal of these violations.

amfori will now work closely with the Commission during the term of the investigation to hopefully resolve the serious situation in Cambodia and return to stable sustainable economic relations between the EU and Cambodia.
