On 27 June 2016, FTA Director General Christian Ewert met with Mr. Liu Chao, Deputy Director General of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to discuss strengthening links between the two organisations and FTA’s activities in China. CCPIT brings together more than 70,000 enterprises from the manufacturing and service sectors in China.
During the meeting, FTA and CCPIT shared views on current developments in EU-China economic relations, and expressed their support for an ambitious trade and investment negotiations agenda. They also discussed possible joint activities in China by the end of this year, such as promotional events for the study on a possible EU-China trade agreement that FTA commissioned from the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels.
The two sides are also considering holding public discussions on the granting of the Market Economy Status to China at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
