FTA presents at the WTO Public Forum in Geneva

This year's WTO Public Forum, held in Geneva between 1-3 October, was organised under the theme of trade and innovation: 'Expanding Trade through Innovation and the Digital Economy'. FTA's Managing Director for Public Affairs presented in the panel 'Made in the world: how can trade policy be adapted to global value chains?' This panel looked at how businesses are increasingly organised in global value chains, yet the regulatory environment under which they operate is either misplaced or shaped by bilateral or pluri-lateral arrangements.

FTA stressed the need for more transparency in the EU anti-dumping regime which is currently being reformed by the modernisation in trade defence instruments (MTDI). FTA welcomes initiatives promoting free trade but still privileges the multi-lateral rules-based system; the discussion gave FTA a platform to raise some of its issues, notably on the rules of origin in the context of global value chains and their implications on anti-dumping regimes.
