In late July, FTA Director General Christian Ewert and Joyce Chau, FTA Representative Greater China travelled to Taipei to meet with the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei (IEAT) and Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) together with other business leaders in Taipei to explore some potential projects that can facilitate EU-Taiwan open trade. In addition, BCSD held its first joint seminar with FTA on ’Driving Sustainable Global Supply Chain with Concerted Efforts.’
Around 30 representatives of BCSD’s members were invited to join and discuss the following topics:
- The key accomplishments of BCSD;
- the latest sustainability development in the EU;
- how BSCI and BEPI relate to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and
- successful FTA members’ cases in driving social and environmental performance.
The seminar marks a good start for a potential long-term partnership of both organisations. For more information, please consult the BCSD website (in Chinese).
During this trip, Mr Ewert also had a courtesy meeting with the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) exploring potential area of collaborations under the Belt and Road initiative. Both CGCC and FTA are partners of Belt & Road Industrial & Commercial Alliance (BRICA) and will keep exploring opportunities to drive sustainable development in the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) countries.
