The FTA urges European Member States not to approve the proposal by the European Commission to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of ceramic tableware and kitchenware from China. It follows an investigation, started in February 2012 by a group of EU producers, that would threaten thousands of jobs related to imports of ceramics and at the same time households would face higher prices.
The FTA has no objection to the principle of anti-dumping duties improsed when trade is conducted in an unfair way. However, the FTA stresses that the investigations need to be conducted in a transparent and fair way with proper consideration for all parties concerned. However in this case, valid arguments from importers and retailers have been brushed aside and the case has reached a stage where FTA members could be fit with punitive duties.
