Protecting Human Rights in Cambodia

amfori, together with the Fair Wear Foundation, Fair Labour Organization, the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), American Apparel and Footwear Association, and Social Accountability International addressed their collective concerns to the Prime Minister of Cambodia about recent developments in the country.

amfori and ETI also approached EU Commissioner for Trade, Ms Cecilia Malmström, together in a joint letter in order to reinforce this message and commitment. Both organisations do not go as far as to call for a withdrawal of the Everything But Arms (EBA) status from Cambodia, rather they highlight the concern that there is strong evidence of serious and systematic violation of fundamental human and labour rights.

The letter also calls on influential stakeholders, including the EU, to promote an environment in which responsible business conduct can be a guaranteed condition for long-term sustainable growth and demands for the opportunity to meet with Commissioner to discuss these issues further.
