Mary Lawlor – the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Defenders met this month with amfori Senior Manager for Stakeholder Engagement – Guggi Laryea - in Brussels to exchange ideas on advancing business support for Human Rights Defenders.

Ms Lawlor, who took up the mandate of Special Rapport on the situation of human rights defender on 1 May 2020, was in Brussels to engage with the EU and other stakeholders in advance of the EU’s forthcoming proposal on legislation on Human Rights Due Diligence.

To this end, she shared a letter co-signed by almost 50 businesses calling for the engagement of Defenders and stakeholders to be made a central aspect of the EU’s forthcoming legislation on Due Diligence.
