UN Women has published a case study on amfori and our efforts in becoming more gender responsive to date. The study follows our story in signing the UN’s Women Empowerment Principles and a broader gender strategy.
The UN study details the actions taken so far by amfori, in transforming the organization internally through leadership training as well as with broader staff in amfori.
The report concludes that the key basis for advancing gender equality within an organization lays on the strong corporate commitment on promoting women empowerment and the support from the Executive Team. In amfori’s case, the fact that staff was already interested in equality and diversity issues added to the momentum.
As highlighted in the study, amfori emphasizes that the introduction of relevant KPIs at an early stage in order to measure and reward actions helps rolling the training out smoothly.
amfori signed the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in February 2020 and since then has been encouraging its members proceed similarly to advance gender equality. The focus of the WEPs is to progress gender equality from the C-Suite to the factory floor.
This process started with a webinar in June 2020 on how amfori and its members can advance women’s empowerment alongside how businesses and policymakers can integrate a gender-lens in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has been followed by the WEPs Activator training launched in October 2020. The ‘WEPs Activator’ is a 10-month journey bringing together a small group of companies to advance gender equality through interactive trainings, peer learning, and individual mentoring.
As regards to staff training, amfori is looking forward to launching further gender trainings in the second half of 2021.
