Women’s Empowerment: a Business Imperative

18 March 2021: amfori in partnership with UN Women organised a session on women empowerment in the workplace. The session discussed the challenges and issues faced by women in value chains across South Asia. The aim of the session is to showcase the business case and benefits of gender equality in the region. Integrating the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in the ‘Protect, Respect and Remedy’ Framework, the session delved into the issues of sexual harassment and lack of women in leadership roles in the textile industry.

The session shared insights from a variety of experts in the subject matter and the region, including:

  • Natasha Majumdar Network Representative, India & Sri Lanka, amfori
  • Ms Thuy-Anne Stricher – Inclusive Business Manager of CARE France
  • Ms Suhela Khan – Country Programme Manager, WeEmpower Asia, UN Women
  • Mr Mashook Chowdhury – Sustainability Manager, DBL Group

The session recognised the value of collaboration between various stakeholders in building progress for women in the region. Through dialogue, interactive discussion and engagement the panel discussion sought to build gender equality in business.

amfori is conscious of the challenges faced by women and has enshrined Gender Equality as a key pillar to deliver its vision.
